As one employee, Sue opens up her paycheck she finds she has not yet received a raise; she has waited all year for this raise. She is very sad to find she did not receive one, she begins to think maybe she did something wrong. She starts to think back through the year, and can not seem to come up with any solutions as to why she did not receive one. She really felt she worked especially hard that year in hopes to receive a good raise and really felt she deserved to be recognized for it. In the break room she overhears John, her follow co-worker, bragging to their colleagueââ¬â¢s about his second raise. Now John is making $1.25 more per hour than her even though they both have been working at Wal-Mart for two years. They both have the same job descriptions and titles so there should not be differences in their pay. Sue ca n not quite understand why he received two when she only received one. She has seen him numerous times being tardy for work or calling in sick. She knows she is a better worker and is more efficient. Sue recently took a human resource class at Buffalo State College and she remembers learning about a law regarding equal pay. She canââ¬â¢t seem to recall the specifics, so she is determined to look into it further and fix the problem. Chapter 2 Sue: The Victim Sue is a 35 year old divorcee and mother of two young children. She does not receive a lot of child support from her ex-husband so Sue relies on the income she brings in to support her and her two children. When Wal-Mart called Sue for an interview, she was so relieved and excited about the opportunity. Wal-Mart hired Sue; she was told that she would start above minimum because of her ten years experience in the field. She was also told that all full-time employees, based upon work performance, receive an annual raise of a dollar each year of their employment. Sue also received a 401k plan. Sue was excited, she hoped to slowl... ...to review stale pay practices will find themselves unable to retain these valuable employees as well as risk being in breach of the federal civil rights laws. Chapter 7: Sueââ¬â¢s New Lifestyle à à à à à After winning her court case and receiving her deserved compensation Sue found another job that would ensure she would never be discriminated by pay again. Sue is a manager at Victoriaââ¬â¢s Secret where she feels more comfortable around women like her, and most important of all she is treated the way she should be. Sue also used some of her settlement money to move into a nicer place. She is much happier in an apartment that does not have any water leaks and her children are safer and better cared for. Sue spends her spare time as an advocate for womenââ¬â¢s rights. In the end Sue is glad that she spoke up against her mistreatment, and has helped several other women with similar situations where they did not have the courage to speak up. this paper is in the form of a story on the equal pay act

Summary of Acheiving Stop Tb Partnership Goals
Summary of ââ¬Å"Achieving STOP TB Partnership Goalsâ⬠The ultimate destruction of TB depends on the identification and treatment of all TB cases. Driving social factors such as poverty, immunosuppression, smoking, diabetes and poor health services make eradicating the current TB pandemic crucial in trying to control the epidemic. Current research has been focusing on early detection, treatment, and vaccination. The STOP TB Partnership was formed in May of 2000 by the World Health Assembly in efforts to reduce the number of people being infected by TB.However, ââ¬Å"In 2006, the TB pandemic continued to kill 2 million people annually and was growing by 1% each year, despite the World Health Organization also known as WHO having declared it a ââ¬ËGlobal Emergencyââ¬â¢ over a decade earlier. â⬠The United Nations has even stated that the goal is to cut the number of TB deaths in half by the year 2015. This is a goal not so easily achieved considering the fact that an estimated 2 billion people are latently infected with tuberculosis worldwide. (Kupferschmidt 1) Tuberculosis is caused from a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. M. uberculosis is an obligate aerobe that grows in tissues with a high oxygenated content, such as the lungs. It is a slow growing bacteria that takes anywhere from 12 to 20 hours to generate. The cells are hydrophobic and have high lipid content in the cell wall and tend to clump together. TB is an airborne disease that is spread from person to person by coughing, sneezing, or speaking. Tuberculosis is diagnosed by a simple skin test that if positive will show a reaction to a small quantity of tuberculosis antigens. A positive confirmation can be made by a chest X-ray, and a microscopic examination of a sputum sample.A new significant development in TB diagnosis has been found in Xpert MTB/RIF assay. The Xpert MTB/RIF is made to detect DNA sequences specific for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and rifampicin resistance by polymerase chain reactions. The MTB/RIF test purifies concentrates and identifies targeted nucleic acid sequences in M. tuberculosis genomes which can take about 90 minutes to complete. MTB/RIF assay has met some of the minimum requirements of the governing groups, such as being easily administered by a low skilled technicians and operating in different temperatures with minimal requirement from the test operator. There has also been price reduction availability for countries with the pandemic. (Zumla 819) While MTB/RIF assay seemed to be the miracle answer for TB testing, it still falls short of the requirements set forth by the STOP TB Partnership. For example, the shelf life is half the expected 2 years, high cost of the machine and cartridges to run it and constant electricity make it difficult for key areas. Safe recycling of large amounts of cartridges also remains an environmental concern being that sputum and positive buffers are present in the used cartridges. (Zumla 822 )There are 11 new TB drugs on the horizon. Hopefully, by 2015 at least 2 of them will be released for public consumption. The current drug-susceptible TB treatment is the medication called Isoniazid or INH. INH is available worldwide, is relatively inexpensive and is generally well tolerated. INH is used to for latent tuberculosis infection to help kill the dormant bacteria and to reduce the risk of the infection becoming active tuberculosis later in life. This medication is taken for 6-9 months; where as the new drugs that are still in clinical trials would shorten this to 4 months. However, these unfortunately are not available yet. What are really needed to eradicate this disease are TB vaccines. The present TB Vaccine, Bacillus Calmette-Guerin or BCG, is an attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis which was introduced in 1922. It is used primarily in children in countries outside the US. Not all administered BCG vaccines have been effective either, only helping with severe childh ood versions of TB (ex: disseminated and meningeal). As of 2011, at least 6 TB vaccine candidates were in preclinical trials, with 21 additional next generation candidates in the vaccine discovery phase.A more effective tool for the United States would be a post infection vaccine, due to the vast majority of cases being remote infections. This would nearly eradicate TB in the US. But, one has currently not been created. (Zumla 823) TB has plagued the human race for decades, only improving when social, economical, and general living conditions were bettered. Recent research continues to look for vaccines, diagnostics, and treatments. However, no new trial based vaccine has been introduced since BCG in the 1950ââ¬â¢s.The STOP TB Partnershipââ¬â¢s goal of lessening the yearly cases of infection by one million is admirable, but so much more needs to be done to control the spread of infection. More people need to be tested and become aware of what a huge problem it currently still is. People know about the disease but many people are not educated about the disease and what the symptoms are until it is too late and have probably already spread it to other people. Despite the years of effort that has been dedicated to TB research, the end still seems to be decades away. Works Cited Alimuddin Zumla, et al. Unfortunately, he became ill and died a month later. Of course, Tyler immediately assumed into presidency. Considering this event was a first in history, many felt that he was merely an acting or temporary president. He gained the nicknames of His Accidency and Accidental President. Fear of alienation from Harrisons supporters, His Accidency kept the entire cabinet although he knew there were a few that hated his guts. He vetoed a bill of resurrecting the Bank of the United States, which made everyone much more furious. Henry Clay expelled Tyler from the Whig Party, called him a traitor, and attempted an impeachment. Daniel Webster in the other hand stayed and supported Tyler. Whos a traitor now? Despite all the loathing, Tyler did not loose his confidence and stubbornness. He knew what was right for the country and did not fear to use his power. After all, he was the president. He also vetoed two bills fo r higher tariffs and worked on annexation of Texas. He signed the Texas statehood bill into law on the first day of March 1845. Statistical Analysis and Statistical Inference
Questions: 1. Statistical Inference Your relative or friend asks you if used car prices are generally higher for cars with automatic transmission than those with manual. Use Price and Transmission data (where A = Automatic transmission, M = Manual transmission) for all cars in your sample and an appropriate statistical inference technique to answer the following question On average is the price of cars, of the specified make and model for sale in the specified state, with automatic transmission higher than those with manual transmission? 2.Simple Linear Regression model Your friend or relative asks you how the value of the car that they decide to purchase will depreciate in value. Use Age (independent variable) and Price (dependent variable) to model the relationship between age of a used car and its price. Then to provide an answer on how how the value of the car that your friend or relative decides to purchase will depreciate in value explore this relationship by a. Plotting the data with a scatter plot. b. Calculating the least squares regression line, correlation coefficient and coefficient of determination. 3. Multiple Linear Regression model Your relative or friend now wants to know what other factors may have an influence on price. To explore this add Kilometres and Transmission as additional independent variables to the regression model developed in Question 2. Then explore the relationship between these variables by a. Calculating the multiple regression equation, multiple correlation coefficient, and coefficient of multiple determination b. Using appropriate tests to determine which independent variables make a significant contribution to the regression model. Hence, determine which independent variables to include in your model. Answers: (1). To answer this we hypothesis tests. We would like to test if the average price of automatic transmission cars is higher than average price for a manual transmission car. Since the number of observations is 91 and 34 for both categories we are safe to use z test for difference in means. We lay out the test as follows: Ho: A = M H1: A M The confidence level we choose is 95% so that type 1 error is 0.05. The critical value is1.96 and we use a 1 tail test- left tail test As shown in the table below the test value is -2.3. this is more than the value of 1.96 in absolute terms, which implies we can not accept null hypothesis. There is statistical support for the observation that manual transmission type cars are higher priced than automatic transmission ones. z-Test: Two Sample for Means Variable 1 Variable 2 Mean 22180.56 27243.82 Known Variance 1.28E+08 1.16E+08 Observations 91 34 Hypothesized Mean Difference 0 z -2.30662 P(Z=z) one-tail 0.010538 z Critical one-tail 1.644854 P(Z=z) two-tail 0.021076 z Critical two-tail 1.959964 (2). The scatter plot is shown below: The regression line is price = 30288 -1099.71*age This implies a negaive relation between age and price. As age rises price falls. The correlation coefficient is -0.38866 The value of coefficient of determination is .151056. This means that only 15.1056% of the variation in price is explained by variation in age. This is very low, and signals the need for more explanatory variables. The coefficient of age is -1099.71. this means that when age rises by 1 year the price of an average car falls by 1099.71. so the value will depreciate by $1099.71 each year. The coefficient of age is significant as shown by p value of almost zero. This is less than 0.05 using a 95% level of confidence. As the scatterplot shows an exponential trend gives a better fit with R^2 = 0.19, compared to a linear trend that we have used. Even a logarathimic trend line gives R^2 = 0.18, which is higher than linear. This clearly shows that linear trend is not useful when calculating depreciation of the car with price as the only explanatory variable. (3). The regression line is price = 36094.287 -343.298*age -0.129*kilometres +4555.587*transmission This implies a negaive relation between age and price. As age rises price falls. The value of R^2 is .72. This means that 72.02% of the variation in price is explained by variation in age, transmission and kilometers. This is a good value, and substantiates the recommendation of more variables. The coefficient of age is -343.298. This means that when age rises by 1 year the price of an average car falls by $343.298, assuming other variables remain unchanged. The coefficient of age is not significant as shown by p value of 0.09. This is more than 0.05 using a 95% level of confidence. The coefficient of kilometers is -0.129. This means that when a car runs for 100 more kilometers its price falls by .129*100 =$12.9, assuming other variables remains unchanged. The coefficient of kilometers is significant as shown by p value of almost 0. This is less than 0.05 using a 95% level of confidence. The coefficient of transmission tells us the effect of type of engine on price of a car. Using a dummy variable which = 0 for automatic transmission and 0 otherwise, we have shown that automatic transmission cars are higher priced by 4555.587. A manual transmission car is priced lower by $4555.587 as compared to an automatic transmission car. The p value of coefficient of transmission is almost zero, which implies that it is significant. What lives in art and is eternally living, is first of all the painter, and then the painting Essay Example For Students
What lives in art and is eternally living, is first of all the painter, and then the painting Essay Expressionism is an art form in which the very style itself and the symbols that the artist uses are meant to express his innermost feelings on the subject. Vincent van Gogh has often been hailed as the quintessential expressionist painter. His artwork covers a range of moods over the years, and his canvases are almost mirrors into his troubled soul. Vincent van Gogh lived a troubled life. He once described his childhood as cold, gloomy and sterile. He alienated himself from his parents and siblings by being a stubborn and reclusive child. He was clumsy, uncommunicative, and lived an early life of solitude, being misunderstood by his own family. The only sibling he had any sort of close relationship with was his brother, Theo. He would later be Vincents biggest supporter, both moral and financial, during the formative years of his unsuccessful career in art. As the young Vincent grew up, he realized that art was his calling in life. He decided that he would paint and make a living off his sales. Ironically, though his paintings may sell for millions todayà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦van Gogh actually sold only one painting in his lifetime, and this, for the meager cost of 40 francs. We will write a custom essay on What lives in art and is eternally living, is first of all the painter, and then the painting specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Van Goghs problems were numerous. First of all, he just didnt have the social skills to be happy in his personal life. He had a few disastrous relationships with women before sinking deep into solitude and depression. His paintings during his troubled romances and the ensuing heartbreaks are filled with darkness and pain, reflecting his inner sorrow. Secondly, while Vincents paintings were indisputably brilliant, he simply didnt have the interpersonal skills to make any sales! The legend has it that he actually used to argue with buyers who praised them, trying to convince them forcefully that his work was not remarkably good! He was an extremely modest man, perhaps overly so. He signed all of his works with simply Vincent, never adding the surname. His numerous personal failures are arguably evident in his works at the time. His inability to find companionship and his constant dependence on Theo for financial support depressed him considerably. In his portraits of people and his scenes during this period, one could argue that the lines and the somber expressions on the faces are practically screaming replicas of van Goghs own discontent in life. His scenes are dark and hopeless, with few random splashes of light. This combination of personal shortcomings led to van Goghs stints with being an assistant teacher and a bookseller. He failed miserably in both cases. His parents, frustrated with supporting their failure of a son, begged him to become a minister. He entered into Theology, but soon realized that he lacked the ability to learn the math and foreign languages necessary. Nonetheless, he did eventually enter an evangelical school, and went on to become a local priest in Brussels. Van Gogh drew new inspiration from working with the poor peasant class in Brussels. While he found it extremely difficult to communicate his religious viewpoints to them, he was a saint in other ways. He was known to give away his own sparse clothing and money to help them. He became fascinated by their plight, but somehow, living with them began to draw him down to their level. Their harsh living conditions and suffering made him lose faith in religion. In effect, ironically, his congregation converted him! At this point in time, he became fascinated by their charcoal drawings and by scenes of everyday life in utter poverty. One of his most acclaimed paintings from this period is The Potato Eaters. This depicts a set of elderly people during the Great Potato Famine in Ireland. .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 , .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .postImageUrl , .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 , .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576:hover , .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576:visited , .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576:active { border:0!important; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576:active , .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576 .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc2c3b845ec863530a209f6f3bc02c576:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: A Reflection on Renaissance Art EssayThe colours are dark and dreary greys, blues, greens and browns, and they are sharing a sparse meal of potatoes and broth. One can almost see van Goghs sympathy for these people. The painting is so emotionally chargedà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦. it is as though he has become one of them, and entered into their suffering himself. Vincent returned to his childhood home after a while, to live with his family again. There, he fell deeply in love with a cousin. The feelings were not reciprocated, and the relationship was doomed to failure. When his father, a deeply religious man, found out about van Goghs incestuous tendencies, the result was a father-son rift that was never resolved. Once again, van Gogh entered into a period of deep personal depression. Even looking at his self-portraits throughout the years, his sufferings are evident. His face is sallow, his mouth droops, his jaw is set, and his eyes are sunken. His apparel is always brown or very dark in colour. Clearly, this is not a happy man. As van Gogh continued into his late 20s and early 30, his life only grew worse. He moved to Paris, where he befriended fellow artist Gaugin. Once again, though, Vincents personal problems and inability to forge normal, lasting interpersonal relationships led to a massive fight with Gaugin. This was the fight that left van Gogh feeling so angry and hurt that he cut off his own ear in a fit of rage. How can one not say that he is a true expressionist when one sees the tragedy of his Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear and Pipe? Theo van Gogh heard of his brothers erratic act, and had Vincent institutionalized in Arles in 1888. In the asylum, van Gogh painted more than seventy artworks, stemming from his psychological viewpoints and frustration and depression in his life at this moment. Cutting his ear off was only the beginning of his psychotic episodes. In retrospect, it seems as though van Goghs emotional outbreaks occurred prior to any perceived threats to his relationships with people he cared about. For example, he had a breakdown after the fight with Gaugin. He had another upon Theos engagement Vincent thought marriage would take his brother away from him and yet another at the wedding. Predictably, with increasing psychiatric problems and personal unhappiness, van Goghs expressionist talents were at their prime. Paintings such as Wheat Field with Crows 1890 reflected mottled feelings of optimism characterized by bright and garish yellows and oranges and deep despair and hopelessness as seen in the navy skies and black crow symbols. Vincent did suffer from bipolar disorder, which caused him to vary between a manic state and a deep depressive state, so his artistic ambivalence is not surprising. Only a few days after completing this painting, van Gogh was dead. On July 27, 1890, he shot himself in the stomach and died. As he said to his beloved brother, Theo, near the end of his turbulent life I feel a failure. Thats it as far as Im concerned I feel that this is the destiny that I accept, that will never change. Vincent van Goghs life was a tragedyà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦a sad legacy of thousands of paintings and sketches which all tell his life story. In the beautiful and intense colours of works like Sunflowers, Haystacks, Wheatfield with Cypresses, Almond Branches in Blossom and Irisesà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦is it not possible to see a glimmer of hope for a mad genius? Look at the vivid yellow and red-orange hues. It is as though these are pictures of what he wants in his life. Colourà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦. representing happiness, love, freedom? An escape from his borderline insanity, perhaps. Then, in works like Prisoners Exercising, Peasant Woman with the Yellow Straw Hat, La Berceuse and The Potato Eaters, we are given a dark insight into the world of the poor and oppressed. His colours are ambivalentà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ranging from bright flowers and cornfields to the dark lines etched into the troubled faces of his subjects. .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 , .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .postImageUrl , .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 , .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21:hover , .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21:visited , .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21:active { border:0!important; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21:active , .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21 .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4aa7dc1e67004a97339c539d43619b21:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Essay Example: Baroque ArtIn others, the entire scene is grey and dull, showing how far into the suffering of his subjects Vincent has allowed himself to sink. In his final years, van Gogh created some of his most acclaimed works. Starry Night, Starry Night Above the Rhone, and Wheatfield with Crows. These paintings were awash with vivid, dark blues, glittering yellow-white stars, black birds in a turbulent sky, and bright corn growing in a field of gold. These pre-suicidal masterpieces are van Goghs snapshot of a disease. Earlier in his life, he painted his own room-Bedroomà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦. he empty chairs and the colours used blue walls, brown and green mottled floor re flected the early signs of his social isolation and perhaps, the onslaught of his psychiatric disorder. Hence, it was only expected that he would leave us with a picture of the final stages of his battle with manic-depression. His final paintings spoke of deep, deep anguish and sadness. His life had been a failure. Yet at the same time, they glowed with the yellows and reds of his maniaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦that undying spark of madness and genius that dwelled within. Vincent van Gogh transcribed his emotions onto canvas throughout a brief and troubled life. He is the epitome of expressionism, and will live on as such for generations to come. Well, even in that deep misery I felt my energy revive, and I said to myself: in spite of everything I shall rise again, I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing, and from that moment everything has seemed transformed in me. -Vincent van Gogh, 1886 On his drive to paint, even in the midst of despair
